After a months-long search for a new home, Agape Table is pleased to announce that it has arrived at an agreement in principle with Waves of Glory Inc. to rent space at The Wave Church at 364 Furby Street. Agape Table expects to be operating in its new location by the end of June.
Agape Table, which serves breakfast every weekday to an average of over 300 low-income Winnipeggers, currently operates in a rented hall at All Saints Anglican Church on Colony Street. Agape Table is moving because All Saints is planning to redevelop its property and the hall will no longer be available.
Agape Table’s new home is one kilometre away from its current location.
“All Saints has been an enthusiastic, compassionate, and accommodating landlord,” says Jim Steep, Chair of the Agape Table Board. “They have extended our rental agreement a couple of times to accommodate our search. We are very grateful for our 30-year relationship with them.”
With an agreement now in place, plans are underway to renovate the kitchen at The Wave and choreograph the move. Agape Table aims to not miss a single weekday breakfast in the transition.
“The Wave is a great location and their people have been very welcoming,” adds Steep. “We are looking forward to renting their space and continuing to help as many Winnipeggers as we can. And we are glad that we are not moving far away.”
Agape Table will be turning to the community for support to help cover transition costs, kitchen renovations, and ongoing operations.
