Beverly Burkard to lead organization through transition and beyond
The Board of Directors of Agape Table is pleased to announce that Beverley Burkard has been hired as the organization’s new, full-time Executive Director.
“Beverly is a remarkable non-profit organization executive with vision and passion,” says Agape Table Board Chair Jim Steep. “She has a deep understanding of social issues in Winnipeg and a wealth of leadership and administrative experience. We are very excited that she has joined us.”
Burkard joins Agape Table after nine years as Executive Director at Red Road Lodge and two years as Corporate Relations Manager at the Canadian Cancer Society. She will lead Agape Table through its upcoming move and beyond.
“I am grateful for this opportunity to be of service to a greater number of our city’s most vulnerable people,” says Burkard. “Agape Table serves many hundreds of different people throughout the year. It is a powerful organization doing honourable work by simply addressing fundamental human needs.”
For the past 20 years, Agape Table has been operating in rented space at All Saints Anglican Church on Colony Street where it serves weekday breakfasts to an average of 350 people per day. The organization will be moving by the end of June and will be renting space from The Wave Church at 364 Furby St.
“I am inspired by our impending move. I know we will be able to continue serving our current guests while welcoming more people from a new neighbourhood,” says Burkard. “To me it’s all about working toward food security and helping as many people as possible have access to the basics – like food, clothing, and hygiene products – so they can lead healthy, fulfilling lives.”
